Jerusalem (dpa) – An anti-Israeli activist overnight exposed the credit card details of some 15,000 Israelis, the Bank of Israel confirmed Tuesday. The hacker, said to be from Saudi Arabia, broke into the sites of Israeli online companies, took the details of transactions made, and Monday night published them in a file on a site called PasteBay. The activist, who identified himself as 0xOmar and wrote he was a member of the hackers group Anonymous, initially claimed 400,000 Israelis were affected. In a statement, the Bank of Israel said clients of three credit card companies were affected: Visa-Cal, Isracard and Leumi Card. It said it was investigating the event. The credit card companies were contacting the affected customers, asking them to replace their cards. The Bank of Israel also urged all Israelis to carefully check their online or printed credit card bills. The details exposed included the clients' credit card numbers, names, addresses, telephone and identity numbers.
