Hong Kong (dpa) – An investigation was launched into the death of a Canadian student found slumped in a toilet in Hong Kong, police said Friday. The body of Joey Basha, 25, was found hours after he left his flat to buy takeaway early December 21. He had fresh needle marks in his left arm, but his phone and wallet were missing, and it was six days before the body was identified as being that of the missing student. Hong Kong police originally said there was no suspicious circumstances but have now said the case merits further investigation. Friends and family quoted by the South China Morning Post Friday insisted Basha was not a heroin user. They also pointed out he was left-handed, which would make it difficult for him to inject his left arm where the needle marks were found.
