Amman (dpa) – Jordanian geologists have discovered huge amounts of phosphate ores worth some 30 billion dollars, a prominent geologist said on Thursday. “A survey conducted by the Jordanian Geologists Association estimates the new reserves of 200 million (metric) tons of phosphate are worth 30 billion dollars at current world prices,” association chairman Bahjat Adwan said in a statement. He said the study covered an area of 250 square kilometers in north-east Jordan. Adwan pointed out that the new findings accrue to the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC), which has an exclusive license for phosphate exploration in the country under an agreement signed with the government in 2006.
