Paris (dpa) – France on Wednesday criticized the Arab League observer mission in Syria, saying it had been unable to stop the bloodshed in the city of Homs, which has been at the heart of protests. The mission's brief stop in the central city meant that the observers had not been able to properly evaluate the situation there, the Foreign Ministry said. “The Arab League observers should return to the city of martyrs without delay and … establish the necessary contact with the civilian population,” the ministry said. The international community would be vigilant against any attempts by the Syrian regime to hide the events in the country, it added, saying the world was used to the government's delaying tactics.
