Berlin (dpa) – A Syrian opposition figure, who is also a politician in Germany's Green Party, has been attacked in his Berlin apartment, a senior parliamentarian said Tuesday. Ferhad Ahma was beaten by two unknown men who turned up at his apartment in the early hours of December 26, Volker Beck, the Green Party whip, posted on Twitter. Police confirmed the attack, but not the victim's identity. As well as being active in German politics, Ahma is a member of the opposition Syrian National Council. The Green Party in Berlin and a group of opponents of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad voiced suspicions that the attack was orchestrated by the Syrian secret service. The Foreign Ministry in Berlin said it was “aware of the attack and the corresponding allegations directed at Syria,” and was in close contact with investigators, in the hope of a “quick and comprehensive resolution.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/lVDnh Tags: Assad, Attack, Berlin, Germany Section: Europe, Latest News, Syria
