Fascism in Britain: The British National Party, Question Time and manipulation
Published in Bikya Masr on 24 - 10 - 2009

Following the unprecedented hype surrounding the appearance of Nick Griffin, leader of the British National Party (BNP) on the political program Question Time, the United Kingdom is buzzing, as is much of Europe. Everyone is discussing how Griffin performed and how this relates to his white supremacist party.
The Show
The presenter David Dimbleby was razor sharp and grilled Griffin like a kebab straight out of Baghdad. If nothing else, the one thing that you must understand about the BNP is that their morals are so low that they are willing to jump onto any bandwagon to get votes. They try to pit the Jews and Muslims against each other (by supporting the Israeli government’s violence); pit the Muslims against mainstream political parties (by criticizing their interference in the Middle East) and they even try to pit black people against Indians, as a good (black) friend of mine can testify. This is the nature of the BNP; they have no principles, so they will have no qualms about selling out and doing whatever they wish once they have the authoritarian power that they so desire.
As much as I would like to verbally slap the ethnic minorities on Question Time for talking about capping the number of asylum seekers entering the UK, I will just mention the following: it would have been in their interests to stick together against a common enemy. By squabbling amongst themselves and trying to promote their own agendas as is their tradition, the mainstream political parties represented on Question Time basically did Griffin’s work for him, tied it with a nice bow, and served it on a white gold platter. It is the inter-party quarreling that Griffin feeds off to gain votes. People are frustrated and tired of the failure of the Labor, Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties and out of the haze (or rather out of the swamps) comes Griffin.
A Cambridge graduate, Griffin- although delusional- is no fool. He understands that there is no way that Jews will vote for a Holocaust denier, especially one who calls it the “Holohoax”. Upon realizing this he miraculously had an epiphany and suddenly stopped believing that the Holocaust was fictitious. When asked by a young Jewish boy in the Question Time audience about his apparent change of heart, the best response Griffin could muster was, (amid boos aplenty) “I cannot explain why I used to say those things…anymore than I can tell you why I’ve changed my mind.”
Visually speaking, the most striking thing about Question Time was how out of his depth Griffin appeared. Aside from the fidgeting and nerves that literally made his hair quiver, Griffin, when faced with direct quotes taken from video footage of him had nothing more than a desperately pitiful response of  ‘No’ which reflected his feeble attempt to deny reality. There’s a reason they say that the camera never lies.
Fascism and transparency
The sad (well, it is a little amusing) thing is that the BNP cannot even get fascism right. Its leaders truly yearn to be racist thugs, but the British community would never let that happen so the party has been forced to adopt a savory attitude. This is the biggest danger with the BNP. If only they could honest about their racism and rid themselves of their “anti-fascist” makeover, it would be much easier to dissuade those amongst their voters who are wavering and desperate. For a party that is so in love with white, they have very little transparency.
It was undoubtedly a counter-productive move by the British Equality and Human Rights Commission who earlier this year forced the BNP to change its constitution to accept non-white and non-Christian members. Far from legalizing the party, this action proves that the BNP is a white-only, racist party by nature that needed legal action to make it seem even slightly palatable to those who are hungry for change.
BNP Tactics
There are still more Brits living abroad than there are immigrants in the UK. Given that they are not racist, and just believe that each race belongs in its own country, does the BNP plan repatriate all Brits to the UK in keeping with that principle? I think not.
To those of you who actually voted, or plan to vote for the BNP, make no mistake- you are being used as pawns to carry out their quest for national domination.  Do you really want a party that changes their constitution and principles every other day to play fickle with your membership? Sharing a platform with David Duke the ex- leader of the Ku Klux Klan -who Griffin oxymoronically (or just moronically) called a “totally non violent” member- Griffin said that “Instead of talking about racial purity, we talk about identity…we use saliable words- freedom, security, identity, democracy- nobody can come and attack you on those ideas.”
Perhaps a novel way to curing Britain of this perpetual political stagnancy does lie with the BNP: once they receive enough power they will have no reason to lie about their beliefs and (if they haven’t already killed their dissidents off) with their true colors showing through, the BNP, and the current British political system may see the reformation that we have been long awaiting.
On Question Time, Griffin was deceptive and cunning, he tried to seem ordinary, rational and moderate, but do not fall for it. History (and YouTube) proves that this faux moderation is all part of Nick Griffin’s scheme. Take a look at the video in which he talks about edging his way into society by appearing moderate. He does not care about his voters, which is demonstrated by his insistence on canvassing ethnic minorities- the very people he wishes to boot out once he rules Britannia. He just desires votes, regardless of who is casting them. What we must realise is that the Big Bad Wolf was still a wolf when he dressed as Grandma. Nazis singing Bob Marley songs are still Nazis. The BNP are, and always will be, brutes in suits.
