Former University of Florida coach Urban Meyer has reportedly accepted the head coaching position at Ohio State University. According to a source from ESPN, Meyer will take over the Buckeyes and sign a seven-year $40 million contract. Urban Meyer will be the Ohio State head coach, according to sources. Ohio State will hold a press conference later today regarding the coaching decision. Meyer has been working as a college football analyst for ESPN since leaving Florida. Urban Meyer left Florida in 2010 due to health concerns related to the stresses of coaching. It is not yet clear how much of those medical issues have been resolved. He guided the Gators to two BCS national championships in 2008 and 2010. In his coaching career, Meyer has amassed a record of 104-23 and his teams are 4-0 in BCS bowls. This season Ohio State has not played up to the standards they have set in recent years, registering a 6-6 record thus far. Before the 2011 season started longtime head coach Jim Tressel resigned due to major rules violations during his tenure. According to Sports Illustrated, infractions dated back all the way to the 2002 national championship team. Tressel was charged with failing to notify Ohio State of rules violations by players. Players reportedly had a financial agreement with a local tattoo parlor owner named Edward Rife. Rife himself was already under FBI investigation for drug trafficking. Tressel now serves as a special consultant for the Indianapolis Colts.
