CAIRO: The two sons of the head of Egypt's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) chief Mohamed Morsy have been released from police custody on Saturday evening. Ahmed Morsy and Omar Morsy had been arrested after an altercation with police at a traffic checkpoint in the Delta town Zaqazeeq on Friday. The siblings had a verbal argument with the traffic officer and the two parties accused each other assaulting one another. The two men say the police officer assaulted them, causing some injuries, and used foul language against them in front of their family members, who were accompanying them in the car. The family car was stopped at a traffic checkpoint on Friday and the officer asked the driver for the license and registration. The men say an argument erupted after the officer used “bad language” against the men and used force against them. The officer, on the other hand, reportedly said the two Morsy brothers assaulted him and his accompanying force could verify the incident. State-owned media reported the news from the officer's perspective and said the two men “have beaten and assaulted the officer.” The FJP issued a statement verifying the story of the two sons, saying that they “were assaulted by the officer and that the car was targeted by the traffic force” and have called it a “politically driven move.” BM
