Marvel Worldwide Inc. has confirmed their latest project, Road to Avengers, will be released in May next year. The comic book will be based on the Marvel Film Universe canon and will have character illustrations that resemble the latest strings of actors that have portrayed them, such as Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. The idea is to provide backgrounds for each character in the movie universe, which differs slightly from the original comic book series. Whilst not completely different, there are enough subtle differences between the movies and the comics to push many people to criticise the ‘accuracy' of the movies. Creating a new universe would remove the confusion and allow the movies to stand on their own merit. According to official statements from Marvel, these stories will explain what happened between the Iron Man movies as well as new adventures. S.H.I.E.L.D, the clandestine organisation which appears briefly in many of the movies, will be expanded on and characters such as Nick Fury and Black Widow, and a prequel to the latest Captain America movie. The Road to the Avengers is planned to be released the same day as the Avengers movie debuts in the theatres. The tie-in should remove any concerns in regards to the difference between the original universe and the movieverse. BM
