NFL Football Game Preview: Pittsburgh versus Tennessee
Published in Bikya Masr on 10 - 09 - 2009

Tennessee (+6) over STEELERS
Ok, let’s begin with the fact that REGARDLESS of who wins the game, this spread is fucking ridiculous. Tennessee was the best team in football last season, and they proved that by beating the Steelers like a drum in a 31-14 week 16 drubbing. Tennessee didn’t make the SB last season because they had to play the Ravens in the second week and both teams beat each other up so badly, and the ravens won a pretty lucky win (those teams matched up really evenly with each other and Tennessee got basically every bad break imaginable).
I think if either team had played the Steelers healthy (though ESPECIALLY the Titans) then it would have been over. So that the Steelers are this heavy of favorites is ridiculous if it’s based on last season in any way shape or form, which it is just because the Steelers won the SB. Either way, the Steelers should have some problems with a dinged up linebacking corps (Timmons in particular) and their line has looked less than impressive in the preseason so far.
I’m going to go out on a limb and predict a defensive battle in this game with both teams trying to establish the run. At the end of the day I just think the Titans are more physical than the steelers. They were last year too for you Steelers’ truthers already writing your hatemails to me. The fact that Haynesworth is gone is being used by some to predict a down year for the Titans, but I think they’re a young talented defense led by Michael Griffin, who is surprisingly good and a talented LB corps.
Their offensive line should be able to beat up on the Steelers and on the opposite side of the ball the Steelers have what is widely regarded as one of the worst offensive lines in football. When two teams with similar styles play one another, only one of those teams is much better at that style of play than the other, I’ll pick the better team to win. Titans with relative ease despite a close score would be my prediction.
