CAIRO: The U.S. Embassy in Cairo has suspended all visa services until further notice due to security concerns, it announced in a statement on its website. It added that the Embassy will resume visa operations when circumstances permit. The statement of the Embassy expressed regrets for any inconvenience this temporary suspension may cause for persons wishing to visit or immigrate to the United States. It also said applicants who need to travel to the United States before resumption of full visa services in Cairo may apply for a non-immigrant visa at any U.S. Embassy or consulate outside Egypt. The Embassy added that it plans to resume limited processing of immigrant visas for the spouses and children of U.S. citizens soon, and said applicants in these categories will be contacted for rescheduling their interviews. Immigrant visa applicants who have not yet been interviewed by a consular officer may request another U.S. Embassy to accept their immigrant visa case for processing. Any request must be sent directly to the Immigrant Visa Section of the relevant embassy. BM
