CAIRO: An 8-11 percent increase in total revenue from the Suez Canal for 2010 has been shown by indicators over the last ten months. Revenues have increased in recent months. October 2010 saw $427.3 million in comparison to $398.9 million in October 2009. The number of vessels in October, 1572, was on the same level in 2010 as in 2009. The Canal saw an increase in net tonnage by 11.7 %, bringing the total tonnage during October of this year to 74.6 million tons compared with 66.8 million tons in October of last year. The number of ships that passed through the canal during the first ten months of 2010 increased by 4.1% over the first ten months of 2009. In 2009, 14,358 ships passed through the Canal during that period, while 14,949 ships passed through the Canal during the same period this year. According to the rates of increase, revenue from the Suez Canal for the 2010 year should approach $5 billion. BM
