CAIRO: Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan and former coach Milovan Rajevac are the front runners for honors in their respective categories for the 2010 CAF Awards slated for Monday, December 20 in Cairo, Egypt.
Gyan will vie for the prestigious Player of the Year 2010, with reigning African Footballer of the Year Didier Drogba, thrice winner Samuel Eto'o Fils, Ivorian Salomon Kalou and Seydou Keita of Mali.
Fellow Ghana stars Andre Ayew and Kevin Prince Boateng failed to make the five-man list released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Saturday to honour best achievers in African football for the year 2010. According to CAF, the quintet will be trimmed to three players on December 11 for the award to be decided by votes from the head coaches of the 53 National Associations affiliated to the continent's soccer governing body.
Midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah will vie for the Promising Talent of the Year alongside Ryad Boudebouz of Algeria and Nigerien sensation Moussa Maazou, whilst the Black Stars will face stiff opposition from African champions Egypt and Algeria for the National team of the Year prize. Milovan, now in charge of Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli is in contention for the Coach of the Year with TP Mazembe's Lamine Ndiaye and Egypt's Hassan Shehata.
Congolese forward Alain Dioko and Egyptian duo Mohamed Nagui Gedo and Ahmed Hassan face-off in the African-based Player of the Year award whilst CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, Morocco's FUS Rabat and TP Mazembe of DR Congo compete for the Club of the Year award.
Nigerian trio Perpetua Nkwocha, Stella Mbachu and Ebere Orji will vie for the Women's Footballer of the Year whilst Nigeria's senior women's team, their U-20 women's team and Equatorial Guinea battle it out in the Women's National team of the Year award.
