Cairo Criminal Court will today hold its second session in the Gamal and Alaa Mubarak corruption trial on the charges of violating stock market and central bank rules to make unlawful profits through dealing in shares of Al-Watany Bank of Egypt. Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, the two sons of former President Hosni Mubarak, who is currently in prison, are facing trial with seven others. They are accused of illegal profiteering of more than LE2 billion. In the first session, in July, Gamal Mubarak said the allegations against him were false and baseless, whilst his older brother, Alaa, said the charges were "lies and slanderous." The others facing trial include two former chief executives of investment bank EFG-Hermes, Hassan Heikal and Yasser El-Mallawany. The Mubarak sons, in jail since last year, were acquitted earlier in June together with their father on separate charges of corruption. Hosni Mubarak, however, was found guilty of not preventing the killing of protesters in Egypt's January 25 revolution that toppled his stronghold regime.
