Trade exchange between Egypt and the US hit $5.355 billion during the first 7 months of the year, 19.7 percent up from $4.471 billion a year earlier, according to a report by the Egyptian Commercial Office in Washington. The report also revealed that the total Egyptian exports to the United States increased by 37.5 percent during the period January-July of 2019 to $1.892 billion, compared with $1.375 billion during the same period of the previous year. The value of Egyptian non-oil exports significantly surged by 31.7 percent to $1.229 billion during the first 7 months of this year from $933.2 million last year, where non-oil exports represented 65 percent of total exports to the U.S. market. Egyptian petroleum exports also rose to $662.9 million during the period from January to July 2019 compared with $441.8 million during the same period of 2018, marking an increase of 50 percent. The Egyptian exports to the U.S. are mainly textiles and garments worth $ 660.4 million – representing 35 percent of the total exports – in addition to steel worth $52.9 million, fertilizers worth $47.9 million, and aluminum and its products of $41.7 million. Meanwhile, the Egyptian imports from the U.S. amounted to $3.463 billion during the January-July 2019 period compared with $3.096 billion in the same period of 2018, marking an increase of 11.8 percent.
