Egypt's trade with South America states 29% up in 5 months

Trade exchange between Egypt and South American countries rose 29.2 percent to $1.792 billion during the first five months of the year from $1.269 billion pounds last year.
The volume of trade between Egypt and Latin America fell 8 percent to $323.867 million at the end of May, compared with $349.233 million last year, according to a copy of a state statics agency CAPMAS statement reviewed by Amwal Al Ghad.
Egyptian imports from South American countries increased 44.8 percent to $1.693 billion during the January-May 2018 period, compared with $1.169 billion during the same period in 2017.
In May, imports jumped 4.8 percent to $309.75 million, against $295.565 million in the same month of last year.
Egypt's exports to South American countries decreased 0.9 percent to $98.5 million, versus $99.428 million last year.
In May, exports dropped 74 percent to $14.117 million from $56.268 million last year.
Brazil captured 72.5 percent of the total volume of trade exchange between Egypt and South America countries during the January-May 2018 period.
Trade exchange between Egypt and Brazil climbed 48.7 percent to $1.299 billion from $666.535 million.
"Egyptian imports from Brazilian market rose 99.4 percent to around $1.243 billion during the first five months of this year, against $623.25 million during the same period last year,' CAPMAS added.
Egypt's exports to Brazil surged 30.5 percent to $56.495, compared with $43.285 million.
Trade exchange between Egypt and Argentina dropped 31.5 percent to $414.152 million from $544.491 million pounds.
Egypt's exports to Argentina fell 45.1 percent to $20.649 million from $37.614 million. Meanwhile, Egyptian imports from Argentina slipped 22.4 percent to $393.503 million, versus $506.877 million.
