Eni upgrades potential of Egypt's gas field Baltim South West
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 24 - 09 - 2016

Italian oil and gas giant Eni has upgraded the field potential of Baltim South West to 1 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas in place.
The announcement regarding the potential of the field has been made following the results of the estimation of reserves in the well Baltim South West 2X.
The company started drilling the well soon after the successful completion of drilling of the discovery well Baltim South West 1X.
Eni said that the Baltim South West 2X well encountered a gas column of 102 metres overall, of which 86 metres net, in two sand layers of messinian age with excellent reservoirs.
The new well takes the gas potential of "Great Nooros Area" to 3 tcf of gas in place. While nearly 2 tcf of gas in place are in the Nooros field, the remaining are in the new independent discovery of Baltim South West.
The Baltim South West field is located in the conventional waters of the Nile Delta, in 25 meters of water depth.
Eni said that it is already working on the development options for the new discovery by partnering with BP.
Currently, Eni owns 50% stake in the license of Baltim South through its subsidiary IOEC, while BP holds the remaining.
The field is just 10 Km away from the Nooros field, which is discovered in Egypt in July 2015 and put into production in September 2015.
Eni said: "As for Nooros, the aim is to maximize synergies with existing infrastructures of the area, in accordance with the "near field" exploration strategy adopted by Eni to leverage on high value opportunities that can grant a quick development of new discoveries."
