Egypt's bill of imported livestock, i.e. meats, buffalo, and cows, dropped by 5 percent during the first half of 2016. The total volume of imported livestock reached 6.8 billion Egyptian pounds (US$765.8 million) versus 7.1 billion pounds a year earlier, the monthly bulletin of state's statistics body CAPMAS showed Thursday. In June 2016, Egyptian imports of livestock recorded 1.7 billion pounds opposed to 1.3 billion pounds in June 2015, marking a 26.7 percent hike. The bulletin showed that Egyptian imports of meats during the first six months of 2016 fell by 7.2 percent to 6.2 billion pounds from 6.7 billion pounds a year earlier. Meanwhile, meats imports rose by 26.2 percent in June 2016 to 1.6 billion pounds compared to 1.3 billion pounds in June 2015. During January-June 2016, Egyptian imports of cows and buffalos increased to 538.3 million pounds compared to 417.7 million pounds, registering 28.8 percent increase.
