Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 24 - 08 - 2016

Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady launched Tuesday the meetings of the Arab Permanent Postal Commission held in Sharm El Sheikh. The two-day event is hosted by Egypt Post, as well as the meetings of the Congress Preparation Work Group.
The Universal Postal Union (UPU) Director General Bishar A. Hussein is taking part in the meetings. UPU is entrusted with the coordination of the international postal work under the United Nations umbrella. This is in addition to the active participation of the ICT Development Manager at the League of Arab States (LAS) Khalid Hazem Fouda, and other heads of Arab postal agencies and institutions and senior global figures.
In the speech delivered on this occasion, ElKady underlined the significance of this large fraternal gathering. He said that it was time for announcing Arab solidarity and brotherhood, believing in the significance of unity and solidarity of the Arab nations to establish stability and security in the Arab countries, and achieve well-being and progress for the people.
He, also, added that the Commission was meeting to recognize the importance of this message on the postal level, and consider the real challenges witnessed in the global postal field that directly impact the world of communications and deeply affect developing postal departmental resources and even the mechanisms of the international postal work. He underlined the significance of the meetings as the 26th UPU Congress is to be held soon this autumn, which will establish the rules of postal work over the next four years. ElKady continued that this gathering was meant to make decisions that lay the model of collective action, to be able to modify conditions and upgrade the postal system work for the good of the Arab nations and people.
For his part, The Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO) Chairman Essam El-Sageir has said that this meeting, attended by heads of post entities and representatives of eighteen Arab countries has a great significance as it precedes the 26 UPU Congress. The Arab counties nominated for the membership of UPU Council of Administration(CA) and Postal Operations Council (POC) will be selected during these meetings; Egypt has already submitted its candidacy for the membership in POC. This is in addition to the candidates for the posts of Director General and Deputy Director of the UPU International Bureau.
Moreover, the meetings will entail agreement on the proposals submitted and coordinate positions that support the interests of the Arab countries during the 26 UPU Congress due to be held from September 20 to October 7. UPU Congress will bring about great results that will substantially impact the work of the international postal work. El-Sageir has added that Egypt's hosting of these meetings emphasizes stability and security, supports tourism in the country and promotes the city of Sharm elSheikh as an international tourism destination in light of the political and security stability it enjoys.
