Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi held a meeting on Sunday with the prime minister and the ministers of irrigation and housing to discuss the damaged caused by recent flooding in Egypt, the Egyptian presidency announced in a statement.
Al-Sisi also allocated one billion Egyptian pounds from the "Tahya Masr" (Love live Egypt) presidential fund and one billion Egyptian pounds from the public budget to help solve the problem of flooding that predominately affected the coastal city Alexandria and Beheira governorate, according to the statement.
Prime Minister Sherif Ismail revealed during the meeting that on Monday the government would start compensating the farmers whose lands were damaged or lost during the most recent heavy rain two weeks ago.
According to Ismail, 27,000 fedans in Beheira governorate and 23,000 fedans in Alexandria were damaged.
Preparation for the expected return of rain and thunderstorms in the country in the upcoming weeks in governorates in the west Delta and Sinai were also discussed during the meeting.
Housing Minister Mostafa Madbouly also discussed with the president and the prime minister the government's programme to improve water and sewage systems in Egypt.
Approximately 20 people were killed in the latest flooding that followed heavy rain that hit Beheira governorate, as well as Alexandria governorate. Various areas in both of these governorates were almost completely flooded due to old sewage and rain drainage systems.
