Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi left the capital Sanaa for Aden on Saturday following weeks of house arrest imposed by Houthi militants since he submitted his resignation in January, the Al Arabiya News channel reported. Members of the country's Houthi militia then stormed his residence, which they had been sieging for weeks. He arrived to his home in the Khor Mekassar area in Aden later that day. This comes after Yemen's political parties edge closer to a deal that would resolve the crisis caused by the powerful Houthi militia seizing power, U.N. envoy Jamal Benomar said on Friday. The Houthis seized Sanaa in September before tightening their grip and prompting Western-backed Hadi to offer to resign in protest. They dissolved parliament and installed a "presidential council" on February 6, sparking security concerns that saw several Arab and Western states close their embassies and evacuate diplomats.
