Yemen president signs truce deal with Houthi rebels Deal comes hours after rebel group seized strategic positions in Sanaa, including the government's headquarters
Yemen's President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi has signed a deal with Houthi rebels to put an end to the violence in the country, Yemeni state news agency Saba reported late Sunday. The deal came hours after the rebel group seized strategic positions in the capital Sanaa. The deal was signed at the presidential palace in the presence of Hadi, the UN envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar and representatives of Yemen's political forces, including the Huthi rebels, Saba reported. Saba also reported that Hadi met on Sunday with his advisors and representatives of political forces, including Ansarullah rebels. Al-Arabiya channel said that the deal stipulates that the present government resign and a new one replace it. Shiite rebels on Sunday seized the Yemeni government headquarters as media outlets reported news of Prime Minister Mohamed Basindawa's resignation. However, Saba reported a few hours later that an official in the presidency denied the news, adding that Hadi had not yet received any resignation requests from Basindawa. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/111346.aspx
