Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reviewed progress on the New Delta project in a meeting on Monday with senior officials, including Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sweilem, Presidential Adviser for Urban Planning Amir Sayed Ahmed, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Walid Mohamed Aref, and Future of Egypt Sustainable Development Authority Executive Director Bahaa El-Ghannam. The meeting examined the latest implementation updates for the New Delta project and efforts to maximise the use of water resources to support national agricultural production, including the status of the northern irrigation water source. Sisi stressed the need for continuous monitoring of all agricultural projects, particularly the New Delta, through close coordination between the government and the Future of Egypt Sustainable Development Authority. He said this cooperation advances agricultural output to strengthen food security for strategic crops and underlined the importance of expanding private-sector participation in agricultural infrastructure. Minister Sweilem presented progress on the conveyance route for agricultural drainage water to the New Delta station, which comprises 12 pump stations and a 166 km route, now 85 per cent complete. Sisi directed that work continue in line with the approved timeline and emphasised the need to press ahead with the national project to regulate the Nile and remove encroachments from the river. Moreover, El-Ghannam outlined plans to launch new agricultural development projects, including land reclamation in the Kufra area and along the Dakhla–Owainat road, expected to be introduced early next year. He added that studies are underway for an agricultural project in Senegal, alongside additional projects under consideration in several African countries. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
