Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib discussed preparations for hosting the 4th D-8 Trade Ministers Council (TMC) Meeting scheduled for 1-2 December in Cairo. El-Khatib met with D-8 Secretary-General Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam on the sidelines of the 41st session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) in Istanbul. The talks reviewed ongoing coordination between Egypt and the D-8 secretariat to ensure the success of the upcoming ministerial meeting, which will focus on strengthening intra-group trade and investment ties. The minister said Egypt attaches great importance to implementing the outcomes of the D-8 leaders' summit it hosted last December, particularly efforts to activate the Preferential Trade Agreement and the dispute settlement mechanism to boost trade flows among member states. The D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8, includes Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Türkiye, with Azerbaijan joining in December 2024. The bloc aims to enhance developing countries' participation in the global economy, promote trade integration, and improve living standards through closer cooperation.
