CAIRO, Sept 20, 2018 (MENA) - Secretary General of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC) Alaa Ezz said Egypt is mulling the launch of direct maritime lines with the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8. The D-8 comprises Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Turkey. In statements to MENA on Thursday, Ezz said he held a meeting with D-8 Secretary-General Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari on amending the statute of the organisation. The amendments include abolishing the general secretariat and to have the presidency of the organisation act as the general secretariat, he explained. He added that Egypt will chair the organisation in 2021. The talks also tackled means of promoting cooperation in the fields of scientific research and technical and vocation training, he said. He noted that the organisation is examining industrial capabilities of the member states to achieve integration. As for an investment conference due to be held in Sharm el Sheikh in December, Ezz said the heads of trade federations of D-8 are invited to the event in order to open new vistas of cooperation between Egypt and the rest of D-8 states. He noted that the feasibility study on establishing a road between southern Egypt and Chad will be finalized soon. He explained that the project will boost exports and link Egypt to seven land-locked states.
