Egypt's Customs Authority (ECA) is ramping up efforts to speed up clearance procedures, ease trade flows and enhance the investment climate at air, land and sea ports, its head Ahmed Amawi said on Saturday. Amawi made the remarks during a tour of customs facilities in South Sinai, beginning with a meeting with Nuweiba Port Authority chief Wael El-Samadesi to review trade facilitation, warehouse operations and transparency measures, the authority said. He also met customs staff at Nuweiba, pledging support to improve the work environment and resolve operational bottlenecks, while hearing their views and proposals. The tour included inspections of new X-ray scanners, logistics centres, warehouses and inspection yards for goods, as well as visits to temporary release units. Amawi also met Egyptian and Arab traders and customs brokers to discuss ways to simplify clearance procedures, before inspecting renovation works at the old Nuweiba customs building and new facilities for staff welfare.
