Egypt's Customs Authority (ECA) head Ahmed Amawi inspected key customs sites in Port Said, where he reviewed customs operations, met local officials, an official report said. Amawi met with stakeholders and customs brokers to discuss expediting customs clearance through advanced systems like random inspection, risk management, automated valuation, classification, and AI-based processing. "We are committed to enhancing customs performance to reduce clearance times and costs, in line with the government's vision for trade facilitation," Amawi said during the visit. He reaffirmed efforts to streamline clearance procedures and facilitate trade,. He added that simplifying procedures helps reduce production and export burdens, supports investment, and fosters a competitive business environment. He also underlined the authority's focus on completing the digital transformation of customs processes and integrating databases with relevant entities. Amawi later met with Port Said Governor Mohab Habashi to discuss mechanisms for improving customs operations and governance. Habashi praised the pivotal role customs plays in supporting the national economy and facilitating trade. He highlighted the importance of continued coordination to secure entry points and enhance Egypt's status as a key import-export hub. The two sides explored ways to advance Egypt's customs system by adopting international best practices to ensure efficiency, transparency, and accountability, according to the announcement.
