Egypt's Tourism Minister Sherif Fathy held talks on Sunday with Spain's ambassador to Cairo Álvaro Iranzo Gutiérrez to boost cooperation in tourism and archaeology, the Cabinet said on Monday. Fathy said Spain was a key market for Egypt's tourism industry, pointing to recent growth as evidence of Spanish travelers' confidence in the country's attractions, from cultural and coastal to adventure and eco-tourism. Spanish arrivals to Egypt climbed 63.3 per cent in the first eight months of 2025 from a year earlier, while the number of tourist nights rose 57.6 per cent, ministry figures showed. The two sides also reviewed archaeological collaboration, with 12 Spanish missions currently active in Egyptian governorates, helping to deepen scientific and cultural ties, the statement said.
