Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, met with Japan's Ambassador to Egypt, IWAI Fumio, to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in tourism and antiquities, as well as exploring future collaboration opportunities, the Egyptian Cabinet reported. Fathy praised the Japanese support for key projects, including the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), highlighting it as a prime example of successful bilateral cooperation. The meeting reviewed tourism indicators of Japanese visitors to Egypt and discussed strategies to attract more tourists from Japan in the coming period. Discussions also covered the upcoming temporary archaeological exhibition, Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs, set to open in Tokyo in March 2025 and run until September. The exhibition is expected to boost cultural tourism to Egypt, given the strong Japanese interest in ancient Egyptian heritage. Additionally, the meeting referenced a recent workshop organised by the Egyptian Tourism Federation (ETF) in cooperation with the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA).
