Egypt and Russia agreed to expand cooperation in healthcare, including launching family medicine clinics at Egypt's Health Care Authority (EHA) centres and mobile "Nile clinics" tailored for Russian visitors, the Cabinet said on Wednesday. The initiative, announced during talks between EHA Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky and Russian Ambassador Georgiy Borisenko, is aimed at tapping into Egypt's growing medical tourism sector. More than 1.5 million Russians visit Egypt annually. The two sides also discussed bringing Russian expertise in nuclear medicine and radioactive medical isotopes to Egypt. El-Sobky said plans are underway to create an integrated centre for cancer diagnosis and treatment using radiotherapy in one of the governorates covered by the second phase of Egypt's Universal Health Insurance programme. Talks included plans for expanded meetings with Russian medical insurance firms to provide discounted packages for check-ups and dental care to Russian nationals. Borisenko reaffirmed Moscow's support for transferring medical technologies and invited El-Sobky to Moscow for further discussions. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: Y.Yasser
