Egypt is negotiating with Russia's state-owned Rosatom to establish an international centre for cancer diagnosis and treatment using nuclear medicine and advanced radiotherapy, Egypt's Healthcare Authority (EHA) said on Tuesday. EHA Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky said the project would be implemented under the second phase of Egypt's universal health insurance scheme and serve as a foundation for future expansion in oncology services. "The initiative represents a promising investment in advanced healthcare," El-Sobky said in a statement, adding the project also aims to produce radioactive isotopes with modern technology and direct cancer screening programs to Arab and African countries according to their medical needs. The talks included Murad Aslanov, director of Rosatom's representative office in Egypt, alongside Alexey Tevanian, Trade and Economic Representative of the Russian Federation in Egypt, who invited Egyptian officials to visit Russia to explore new applications of nuclear technology in medicine.
