Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi reaffirmed on Wednesday Egypt's firm support for Lebanon's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity during talks in Egypt with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. President Sisi praised the Lebanese government's recent steps to restore state institutions and extend authority across the country. He stressed Egypt's full backing for Lebanon's efforts to achieve stability, economic recovery and reconstruction. Sisi highlighted ongoing Egyptian contacts with international and regional actors to ensure Lebanon's stability and to press for a full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. He underlined the importance of international support for Lebanese institutions, especially the army. For his part, Salam, on his first visit to Egypt since assuming office, expressed gratitude for Egypt's support, reflecting the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. He outlined his government's priorities, including strengthening cooperation with Arab states, led by Egypt, and preparations for the 10th session of the Egypt-Lebanon Joint Higher Committee, scheduled in Cairo later this year. The meeting also addressed regional issues, with both sides aligning on the Gaza situation and stressing the need for political solutions to regional crises while respecting state sovereignty and territorial unity.
