Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty on Wednesday exchanged views with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen on the grave developments in Gaza, in light of Denmark's presidency of the European Union and its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for 2025-2026. Abdel-Aty outlined the proposed ceasefire plan, which Israel has not yet responded positively to it, stressing the need to maintain pressure on Israel to achieve a ceasefire and allow the entry of humanitarian and relief aid amid a worsening crisis that has reached famine levels. He welcomed announcements by several Western countries of their intention to recognise the State of Palestine, expressing hope that Denmark would follow suit, calling such recognition the real guarantee for lasting peace and stability in the region. The minister briefed his Danish counterpart on Egypt's intensive efforts to secure a ceasefire and ensure aid delivery. He urged European states, during Denmark's hosting of the upcoming informal EU foreign ministers' meeting, to take effective measures against Israeli arrogance and intransigence under its imposed preconditions. Abdel-Aty also welcomed Denmark's decision to continue funding UNRWA and its positive stance within the EU in encouraging other states to support the agency. He voiced hope that Denmark would play an active role in the upcoming international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, which Egypt will host.
