Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty discussed on Saturday with Sigrid Kaag, UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, Israel's continued targeting of humanitarian personnel and UN relief agencies, including the recent decision to shut down six UNRWA schools. Abdel-Aty denounced the move as a blatant violation of international law and highlighted the critical role the agency plays in delivering essential services to Palestinian refugees. He stressed the need for increased international and UN support for Palestinians in Gaza during the coming phase. The Foreign Minister also outlined the Arab reconstruction plan and ongoing preparations for the early recovery and reconstruction conference, which Egypt is set to host in coordination with the United Nations and the Palestinian government. Abdel-Aty underscored the importance of international contributions to restore essential services, initiate early recovery activities, rehabilitate infrastructure, and resist attempts to forcibly displace Gaza's population. He further shared Egypt's vision for the success of the upcoming conference and its related workshops, emphasising the private sector's role, financing mechanisms, and the political and security dimensions of future governance in the Gaza Strip. The discussion came as part of ongoing coordination to address the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and ensure safe and sustained access to humanitarian aid, while underlining the importance of halting current hostilities and reinstating the ceasefire.
