Egypt's Ministry of Higher Education announced that six universities have been ranked among the world's top 1,000 in the 2025 Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which assessed more than 2,500 institutions globally. The results showed that Cairo University maintained its position at the top of Egyptian universities in the ranking, placed in the 401–500 band globally, and within the list of the world's top 500 universities. It was followed by Alexandria University in the 501–600 band, while Ain Shams University and Mansoura University came in the 601–700 band. Al-Azhar University was listed in the 701–800 band, and Zagazig University in the 901–1000 band, bringing the total number of Egyptian universities included in the world's top 1,000 this year to six.
