Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty on Tuesday stressed the need for intensified international efforts to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, amid what he described as an unprecedented humanitarian crisis caused by the Israeli offensive. Abdel-Aty made the remarks during a meeting with Florian Hahn, minister of state at the German Foreign Ministry, held on the sidelines of the high-level international conference on resolving the Palestinian cause and implementing the two-state solution at the United Nations headquarters in New York. He briefed the German official on the latest developments in Gaza and Egypt's efforts to secure a ceasefire and facilitate the release of hostages and detainees. The two ministers also discussed Egypt's preparations to host a conference on early recovery and reconstruction as soon as a ceasefire agreement is reached. Abdel-Aty stressed the importance of expanding international recognition of the State of Palestine within the framework of the two-state solution. He said establishing a political horizon for a fair and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue is essential for peace and stability across the region. He reaffirmed Egypt's continued support for the Palestinian people in securing their legitimate rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
