President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday stressed the need to de-escalate tensions in the region and seek sustainable political solutions to ongoing crises in order to bolster regional peace and stability. The remarks came during a meeting in Cairo with General Michael Kurilla, Commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). The discussions covered developments in Syria, Libya, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa. The meeting also addressed water security, with President Sisi underscoring the critical importance of the River Nile, which he described as a matter of national security for Egypt. Talks included ways to advance bilateral cooperation and joint coordination, particularly in military and security fields, and highlighted the importance of strengthening these ties to support regional and international stability. The two sides also reviewed the situation in the Middle East. President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's continued efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate the exchange of hostages and detainees, and resume the urgent entry of humanitarian aid. Sisi praised US President Donald Trump's efforts toward a ceasefire, and stressed the need to revive the peace process to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region. General Kurilla conveyed President Trump's greetings to Sisi, which the Egyptian leader welcomed, affirming the depth of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States.
