Egypt's Ministry of Transport on Monday denied the authenticity of an audio recording circulating on social media that was falsely attributed to Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport. The ministry said in an official statement that the recording – which allegedly criticises Egypt's infrastructure and links the Ramses Telephone Exchange fire to poor budgeting and underinvestment – is "false, fabricated, and deliberately misleading." "It bears no connection to Minister Kamel El-Wazir," the ministry said, warning that the audio was intended to sow confusion, spread rumours, and undermine the country's development achievements. Since 2014, Egypt has launched a wide range of large-scale infrastructure and transport projects as part of a national modernisation drive. The ministry called on citizens not to be misled by unverified content online and to seek information only from official government sources.
