Egypt and Sierra Leone discussed deepening cooperation across transport and infrastructure sectors during high-level talks in Cairo on Wednesday, as the West African nation looks to tap Egyptian expertise in large-scale development projects, as per a transport ministry statement. Egypt's Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir met with Sierra Leone's Minister of Transport and Aviation Alhaji Fanday Turay, where both sides affirmed strong bilateral ties and outlined potential avenues for collaboration. Minister El-Wazir said Egyptian companies, which have delivered major infrastructure projects across Africa and the Arab world, are ready to implement projects in Sierra Leone. He pointed to their "proven capabilities and high-quality standards" in areas including ports, railways, and urban transport. Minister Turay hailed Egypt's development trajectory as a model of regional leadership, citing the country's mega infrastructure push under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He said Sierra Leone is keen to benefit from Egypt's experience, particularly in land transport, port development, and logistics. The talks explored joint projects including the manufacture of buses in Egypt for Sierra Leone's road networks, Egyptian management of its public transport systems, and cooperation in river and dry port infrastructure. The ministers agreed to form a joint working group to coordinate future initiatives and expand cooperation across maritime, rail, road, and inland transport sectors. Minister El-Wazir reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting African development, saying Africa remains a key priority for Cairo's international partnerships.
