Egypt's Tax Authority (ETA) announced limited amendments to the Value-Added Tax (VAT) law aimed at expanding the tax base and correcting distortions, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Finance on Sunday. The authority confirmed that there will be no change to the general VAT rate or tax exemptions on essential goods, food, healthcare, and education. It also clarified that the changes were made in response to requests from representatives of various productive sectors and to support efforts to boost human development spending. The statement noted that the reforms are part of a broader effort to achieve tax justice, encourage businesses to join electronic systems, and align with international standards from the World Health Organisation and the World Tourism Organisation.
