The Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) has held a virtual meeting to review procedures for registering Egyptian pharmaceuticals in the Zambian market, in coordination with the Egyptian Embassy in Lusaka and the commercial office there. The meeting comes in light of a memorandum of understanding signed between the Egyptian Drug Authority and Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA). Under the agreement, Egyptian medicines can now be registered in Zambia within 30 days—a move expected to significantly streamline regulatory procedures. The initiative aligns with Egypt's wider strategy to boost exports to Africa and open new markets for key sectors, particularly pharmaceuticals and medical industries. Egyptian pharmaceutical exports to Zambia rose sharply to $11.2 million in 2024, up from $1.5 million in 2023. The MoU is expected to further drive growth in the coming period.
