Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) signed an executive framework with Zambia's Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) to activate a MoU on pharmaceutical cooperation, a Cabinet statement announced on Thursday. EDA's Chairman Ali El-Ghamrawy said the agreement reflects a joint commitment to advancing African integration in drug security, underlining the authority's aim to share regulatory, registration, and inspection expertise with fellow African nations. He added that the collaboration aligns with Egypt's vision to support African capabilities and build a continental pharmaceutical system based on quality, innovation, and sustainability, according to the statement. Makomani Siyanga, ZAMRA director general, emphasised the importance of collaborating with Egypt to improve Zambia's pharmaceutical sector and support African Union efforts in quality assurance and trade facilitation. Egypt's Ambassador to Zambia described the partnership as a model of African integration. She highlighted the MoU's role in supporting the African Union's goals to localise pharmaceutical production and harmonise regulatory standards. The agreement is part of broader efforts to boost self-sufficiency in medicines across Africa, deepen regulatory cooperation, facilitate trade, and improve access to safe and effective pharmaceutical products.
