Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty on Wednesday discussed the rapidly evolving situation in the region following the military escalation between Israel and Iran, and its implications for regional and international peace and security. Abdel-Aty held phone calls with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, whose country currently chairs the Arab League Summit, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The ministers exchanged views on ways to contain the escalation and achieve a ceasefire to prevent the conflict from spreading further. They stressed the importance of resolving the crisis through political and diplomatic means, and of working to prevent the region from sliding into chaos. The ministers also reaffirmed the need to resume negotiations on Iran's nuclear programme. They agreed to maintain close coordination and intensify joint efforts to de-escalate the situation and restore the path of negotiations. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
