They also addressed recent events in the Red Sea. Abdel-Aty underlined the need to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and highlighted the importance of restoring calm and preventing the region from sliding into a cycle of violence and escalation. The two sides also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip. Abdel-Aty reviewed Egypt's efforts to uphold the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, implement the second phase of the deal, and contain the current escalation.
