Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty on Wednesday expressed appreciation for the European Parliament's approval of the final reading of the decision to the disbursement of the second tranche of the European Union's macro-financial assistance package to Egypt. The vote, passed with a strong majority during the Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg, reflects the EU's recognition of the strategic and comprehensive partnership with Egypt, and the depth of Euro-Egyptian relations, Abdel-Aty said during a phone call with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. Abdel-Aty stressed Egypt's commitment to advancing the pillars of this partnership across various sectors. For her part, Metsola asked Abdel-Aty to convey her greetings and high appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, commending his wise leadership and Egypt's balanced regional role amid current turmoil. She added that the majority vote in favour of the decision shows strong awareness of Egypt's vital contribution to regional security and stability. The call also included an exchange of views on recent regional developments. Abdel-Aty briefed Metsola on Egypt's recent diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and preventing further deterioration, underscoring the need to resume negotiations as the only path toward a sustainable agreement on Iran's nuclear programme.
