Egypt's annual urban consumer price index (CPI) rose to 16.5 per cent in May 2025, up from 13.5 per cent in April 2025, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Wednesday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the entire country reached 258.4 points in May 2025, marking an increase of 1.8 per cent compared to April 2025. The increase was driven by higher prices across several categories, including grains and bread (0.1 per cent), meat and poultry (1.2 per cent), fish and seafood (2.4 per cent), oils and fats (0.2 per cent), fruit (13.4 per cent), and vegetables (2.1 per cent).
