Egypt's General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) signed an agreement with COMFILY Hong Kong Co., Ltd to establish an integrated industrial complex for bag manufacturing in the West Qantara industrial zone. The Chinese company, which specialises in producing various types of bags, fabrics and accessories, will invest $20 million (around 1 billion Egyptian pounds) in the project, which will pan 80,000 square metres. The facility is expected to produce over 22 million items annually, with 80 per cent destined for export and the remaining 20 per cent allocated to the local market. Operations are set to begin by the end of 2026. COMFILY is affiliated with Chinese firm Henneway Travel Products, and both are owned by the same investor. A second factory for branded luggage production, including items for names such as Samsonite, will also be built in the same plant. This facility will complement the first plant, which is currently under construction and scheduled for trial operations by the end of 2025, with full-scale production expected in early 2026.
