Norwegian renewable energy firm Scatec on Sunday signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for the Shadwan 900-megawatt wind power project in Ras Shukeir, the latest development under Egypt's NWFE (Nexus of Water, Food and Energy) initiative. The deal marks a major step in Egypt's efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity and attract private investment into the sector. Located along the Red Sea coast, the Shadwan wind project is expected to become one of the largest onshore wind farms in the region. The project forms part of the NWFE energy pillar, which aims to mobilise international climate finance and accelerate Egypt's transition toward a low-carbon economy. The signing underscores Egypt's commitment to reaching 42 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2030, in line with its climate goals and the broader green growth strategy.
