Trade volume between Egypt and African Union countries reached $9.8 billion in 2024 against $9.2 billion in 2023, a 6.5 per cent increase from 2024, according to recent figures published by Egypt's state statistics agency, CAPMAS. Egyptian exports to African Union countries reached $7.7 billion in 2024, up 4.7 per cent from $7.4 billion in 2023. Meanwhile, imports from African Union countries rose 14.5 per cent to $2.1 billion in 2024, up from $1.8 billion in 2023. In 2024, Libya was the top importer of Egyptian goods at $2 billion, followed by Morocco ($1 billion), Algeria ($996 million), Sudan ($866.2 million), and Tunisia ($372 million). However, the Democratic Republic of Congo led African Union nations in exports to Egypt, with imports valued at $661.9 million, followed by Sudan, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, according to the report. Conversely, remittances from African workers in Egypt amounted to $23.6 million in 2023/2024, compared to $28.8 million the previous year, with South Africa topping the list. Investment flows showed a decline, with African Union investments in Egypt totalling $831.2 million in 2023/2024, down from $1.6 billion, while Egyptian investments in Africa slightly decreased to $499.1 million.
