Egypt's PM inspects Future of Egypt projects, advances self-sufficiency agenda

Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Monday toured the Future of Egypt Sustainable Development Projects in the New Delta region, underscoring the government's push for sustainable development and local economic growth through strategic agricultural and industrial projects.
The prime minister, joined by key officials including Ministers Kamel El-Wazir and Hany Swailem, and Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development Chairman Bahaa El-Ghannam, toured wheat harvesting operations under the Future Egypt initiative. This ambitious project is aimed at reducing Egypt's dependency on imports by boosting the local production of strategic crops like wheat, which remains a major expenditure for the country.
"Future of Egypt represents a strategic shift towards greater self-sufficiency, leveraging our competitive advantages to reduce the import bill and enhance domestic productivity," said the prime minister. He emphasised the government's commitment to building a robust agricultural base with cutting-edge technology and infrastructure.
Prime Minister Madbouly also visited infrastructure development sites focusing on water management, including advanced irrigation systems and water pumping stations designed to support large-scale agricultural projects. These measures are critical to ensuring efficient water distribution, a vital resource for the country's expanding agricultural sector.
Additionally, he toured the logistics and industrial zones of the New Delta, where major storage and refrigeration projects are underway. The government is constructing 90,000 tons of refrigerated storage and 500,000 tons of grain silos to support year-round agricultural supply chains and improve storage capacity.
"The goal is to create a sustainable, self-sufficient economy that can support both local markets and international trade," Prime Minister Madbouly added. He also visited a number of manufacturing plants, including animal feed production facilities and refrigerated storage units, reinforcing Egypt's strategy to enhance domestic industries and reduce reliance on imports.
In the final leg of his tour, Prime Minister Madbouly met with staff from the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority. He praised their efforts in delivering these major projects, which are set to play a key role in Egypt's economic growth and modernisation.
